1. IF MY HAIR IS FALLING OUT, HOW CAN A
SELF-TRANSPLANT BE EFFECTIVE?
Hair bulbs do not have the same genetic characteristics
all over the scalp. If you examine individuals affected
by genetic baldness and thinning, you will see that
everybody retains hair on the back and sides of
the head. These areas can therefore be safely used
as donor areas. Hair bulbs taken from these areas
are genetically stronger than those from the areas
affected by hair loss. Long lasting results can
be ensured by transplanting these genetically stronger
bulbs. Generally speaking, the areas most subject
to thinning are the top of the head, the upper forehead
and the temples, but there are also differences
in the way thinning and hair loss affects men and
women.
2. WHAT SORT OF INSTRUMENT DOES HSD USE
FOR TRANSPLANT MICROSURGERY?
The self-transplant microsurgery that
HSD performs in its treatment centres differs from
other surgical techniques precisely in the type
of instrument used. HSD uses an instrument called
Trilix, instead of scalpels (which are obsolete)
and lasers (which damage the bulbs and leave visible
scars in the donor areas).
The Trilix that HSD uses for its aesthetic micro-surgery
was invented and named by Dr. Carlo Alberto Pallaoro.
It is a high speed microsurgical drill that removes
tiny patches of scalp tissue. The Trilix is used
in other aesthetic surgery procedures too, including
the treatment of stretch-lines and scars, and in
face-lifts as well as hair self-transplants. The
Trilix has a thin hollow tip that rotates at high
speed (40,000 rpm) and removes skin patches of only
half a millimetre in diameter.
3. HOW MANY TRANSPLANT SESSIONS WILL I NEED
TO ACHIEVE SATISFACTORY RESULTS?
Up to 2000 hair bulbs can be transplanted
in just one session using the HSD method of microsurgery.
In many cases this is enough to achieve satisfactory
repopulation of the scalp. If it is not, additional
sessions can be scheduled to obtain the desired
result.
4. WILL THE SURGERY LEAVE ANY VISIBLE TRACES?
No. The HSD transplant method leaves no
visible traces. Because the HSD method does not
make cuts into the scalp like other transplant methods,
it does not even leave scarring at the back of the
head. The transplanted bulbs are removed from the
donor area individually, using a special microsurgical
instrument. The same instrument is used to make
the tiny pocket into which the bulb is implanted.
The size of the hole from which the bulb is removed
is so small that no stitches are required, and because
the implant pocket and the transplanted bulb are
exactly the same size, there will be no scarring.
5. WHAT HAPPENS IN THE DAYS IMMEDIATELY
AFTER THE TRANSPLANT?
In the days immediately after the HSD
transplant session, the treated area of scalp will
be covered by cutaneous adhesive. Once this has
been washed off, tiny scabs will develop, but will
soon fall off. The new hair will begin to grow back
gradually. This is why the HSD technique is so well
appreciated by all those in search of discretion,
who do not want others to know they have undergone
surgery.
6. IF I PULL TRANSPLANTED HAIR, WILL IT
BE WEAK AND FALL OUT?
Your new hair will begin to grow as soon
as the scarring process is complete. Your transplanted
hair will be identical to and just as strong as
your other hair.
7. WILL I BE ABLE TO COMB MY HAIR NORMALLY?
Your new hair will grow in the natural
direction for that area of scalp, and will have
all the characteristics of healthy hair. You will
therefore be able to style your hair exactly as
you wish. Avoid excessively aggressive or irritant
products, of course, because these can damage even
the strongest hair!
8. WHAT HAPPENS IN THE PRELIMINARY VISIT?
An HSD expert will thoroughly examine
the characteristics of your hair loss, the extent
of thinning and the present distribution of hair
on your scalp. He will then suggest the most suitable
self-transplant programme for your own condition,
bearing in mind essential factors like sex, age,
hairline, the amount donor hair available, and the
shape of your face and head. Our expert will make
sure that any results promised can actually be delivered.
9. HOW DO I BOOK A VISIT?
To book a visit, simply click here and
fill in the booking form, or call us on + 39 049
665529 to speak to an HSD expert.
10. HOW MANY HAIRS ARE TRANSPLANTED IN
EACH SQUARE CENTIMETRE OF SCALP?
It is impossible to give an exact figure
for the number of hairs transplanted per cm2 because
the number can vary significantly, and depends on
factors like the colour and thickness of the donor
hairs. Thick, dark hair can be transplanted more
sparingly than thin, blond hair with the same results
in terms of appearance. The area to be treated and
the desired results also need to be carefully evaluated.
11. WILL CUTTING MY HAIR SHORT STRENGTHEN
IT?
No. When you cut your hair, you get the
impression that it grows back stronger than before
only because the thin tips have been cut off. Cutting
hair is only useful to eliminate split ends and
dull hair ends, but does absolutely nothing to make
your hair grow thicker or more densely.
12. WILL DAILY WASHING WEAKEN MY HAIR?
If you use an aggressive shampoo you can
damage the outer cuticle of your hair and cause
split ends, or even irritate your scalp. If you
use a good quality mild shampoo, however, daily
washing will not accelerate hair loss because, like
any good cosmetic product, its effects are only
external and do not penetrate into the bulbs in
the scalp.
13. WILL USING GEL EVERY DAY MAKE MY HAIR
FALL OUT?
Hair gel is a cosmetic applied to the
outside of the hair and does not penetrate into
the bulb. If you use a poor quality gel, you might
damage the shafts of your hair, but you will not
affect its growth.
14. WILL WEARING A MOTORCYCLE HELMET WEAKEN
MY HAIR?
No, even though the mechanical stress
it causes can damage the shafts of your hair.
15. IS IT TRUE THAT EVERYBODY LOSES MORE
HAIR IN THE AUTOMN?
Yes, it does indeed seem that leaves are
not the only things that fall in the Autumn! Healthy
individuals lose around 60 hairs a day. This figure
increases to about 100 in the Autumn. A similar
phenomenon can also occur in the Spring.
16 DO CERTAIN LIFESTYLES ENCOURAGE HAIR LOSS?
It has recently been demonstrated that
high stress lifestyles and certain unhealthy lifestyles
encourage hair loss. Smoking, for example, affects
the health of the hair bulbs, as does drastic dieting
of the sort that deprives the body of the substances
it needs, and the abuse of certain drugs.
17. WHY DO DANDRUFF AND HAIR LOSS SEEM
TO GO TOGETHER?
Because dandruff is one of the symptoms
of seborrhoeic dermatitis, a condition that can
accelerate hair loss. This condition can easily
be treated using a suitable shampoo.
